Jami’s Apple Pie
Jami’s Apple Pie
Yield 8 slices
Absolutely the best apple pie ever! Granny smith apples are the only way to go! And this crumb topping will bring tears to your eyes!
Jami’s Apple Pie
6 granny smith apples, peeled, cut, and cubed
½ cup sugar
½ cup flour
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
Mix all ingredients together until apples are well coated and pour into a prepared (uncooked) piecrust in a 9-inch, deep-dish pie pan. Be sure and prick holes in the bottom of the crust with a fork to prevent bubbling. After apples are arranged in pan, cover piecrust edges with foil to prevent over-baking.
Crumb Topping
In the bowl where apples were coated add:
½ cup sugar
½ cup flour
½ cup butter (1 stick, cool so it will crumble well)
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1 tablespoon brown sugar
Cut ingredients together into pea-sized crumbs and then pour/sprinkle on top of apples. Bake at 400 degrees for 10 minutes, reduce heat to 350 and continue cooking for 40 to 45 minutes. I leave the foil on for the entire time and do not remove it until the pie is slightly cooled so that the crust stays intact. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or fresh whipped cream! Serves 6 to 8 or sometimes 2 to 4!
Jami, that was beautifully written. I loved it so much! I have learned more about God’s unconditional love since I’ve been a parent. Thank you for sharing.
