All Da Power!

Our two and four-year-old sons, Charlie and Sam, aka the vandals, love to play games on the iPad. However, they are more obsessed with the “power” than the actual games. They can’t relax and enjoy playing the games because they want, “ALL DA POWER!”

They revel in the battery image when it indicates full.

Full green, fully charged, all da power.

If the battery is fully charged they whoop and holler, their voices deepen, we call it superhero-mode. Sam will yell, “Charwglie, da compoooter has ALL da power!” Charlie responds with an overly emphasized growl, “ALL da power is in da compooooter! We have all da power!”

all-da-1

As the power decreases, they scramble to get the iPad plugged back into “da wall power.”

All of the power is of the utmost importance to them.

A little just won’t do.

Initially, I found this silly. My husband argues that it’s not good for the battery and impacts the battery life. Justin contends that in order for the battery to last it needs to run out completely and then charge fully without disturbance.  Granted, I find this silly as well, but only because I have minimal amity in my life and I can’t be responsible for healthy battery longevity.

But lately… I tend to side with the vandals.

All the power seems like a better transaction than only some of the power.

I often pray out loud in front of the children.  I boldly bless them, proclaiming their sonship of the Most High, that they might be filled with the Holy Spirit, that they will be light in darkness, joyful sounds in the midst of war, and that they will bind the broken hearted in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirt. Other times they may hear me holler, “DEAR LORD! WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO THE CARPET!?!?!? HOLY JESUS COME QUICKLY!?!?!?”

Strong words.

Do I believe in the WHOLE power?

Is my battery only at 12%?

all-da-2

I believe.

Do I fully fathom?

The faith of a mustard seed; on the battery icon, what does this look like?

I want more.

More power, full power.

100%.

So per our usual morning ritual, our youngest vandal, Charlie is up at 4:00 am.  As we sleepily climbed the stairs toward the loft to watch Bubble Guppies, with our first mug of “copeee” and cups of Fruit Loops, Charlie paused on the stairs.

“Keep going buddy.” I encouraged.

“I can’t mommy. I gots no more power. Prays to da Howy Spirit to get me up da stairs.”

My first thought?  Maybe if we slept until 8:00 am we wouldn’t need “da spirit” to make it up the stairs. My second thought, ABSOLUTELY!

Let’s use all the power. Fully charged, speak it out, shout it out – profess it done. The entirety of the covenant, a companion that moves through us like a bolt of electricity.  And so I prayed “Holy Spirit, get Charlie up the stairs.”

He responded, “I fink it’s working…” and we made it to the landing and drank “copeee” and he watched his latest favorite while I questioned why the Bubble Guppies’ baseball game was canceled due to rain.

all-da-1Deep, philosophical thoughts.

Again, power came to mind. The Bubble Guppies have the power to breath underwater, they have the authority to play baseball in the rain in the depths of the sea… still, they didn’t use this power and were sad to cancel their game.

Clearly, it is very early, and I am exhausted.  However, the theme is the same.  My worship songs and prayers are indicative of needing to be filled up, please for the spirit to come and fill me up, and litanies of less than.

I most convicted. The Spirit is here. Yet I wander about not tapping into or fully plugged into the overwhelming charge. I make the power of the Holy Spirit about me. It is technical. How can I make Him more? How can I make Him move in me? How can I get more?

It is already done.

I have an everlasting, never weakening charge.  Jesus sent the companion Spirit, and He is unceasing – He doesn’t decrease in strength or power when I don’t read my Bible, nor is there increase when I do.  And He is not the lesser, as if “Well, the Father is unapproachable, the Son is with the Father… I guess the Third will have to do.”

all-da-2Yet, this is how I have treated Him.

This renewing of my mind has been elaborate.  Even at 4:00 am I am grinning at the romance I now encounter with the Holy Spirit. In His purest form, He is all power. Fully charged, fully available – no need to continually beg Him to fill me up. He doesn’t vanish and reappear like a mythical beast in need of feeding.  This is magnificent. No food or drink, not even four more hours of sleep, He is the energy promised to guide me in wisdom and get me up the stairs.  The habit of recognizing His constant companionship – that I needn’t manifest Him only on Sundays when worship is spot on, it breath taking.

This is the fullness of my Life in Jesus. This is the truth of the Cross.

He sent the power.

In my deepest superhero voice, I boldly proclaim this, “I have all da power.”

all-da-1Unlike the iPad battery staying fully charged all the time doesn’t decrease my charge, it manifests more.

This day, let us boldly agree on this truth and walk out your Wednesday in the Glory of “da Power.”

Effervescent, heroic, available, and perfected – the one whom Jesus promised and the Father sent.

Advocate.

Confidant.

Teacher.

Friend.

First choice, not last resort.

Beloved.

Blessed consciousness.

Holy Spirit, you are welcome here – keep us fully charged.

May your floors be sticky and your battery remain at 100%.  Love, Jami

And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper,[a] to be with you forever, 17 even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be[b] in you. John 14:16-17

Amen, and Hallelujah! (Mary was hoping “Bubble Guppies” were a Vandal-ism of some baseball team. I was sad to disillusion her…)

Amen! I am SO thankful for the gift of the Holy Spirit. Reminds me of a song Teen Missions sang:
More love, More power, More of You in my life.
I will worship You with all of my heart, I will worship You with all of my life.
More love, More power, More of You in my life!
