A Very Important Message…
At a recent talk to young moms, where I hoped to deliver a very important message, I lost my mind and ran right off the rails.
The talk is one I have done a dozen times.
A mixture of laughter and tears, more laughter and then… I saw her; a young mom nursing a baby, sobbing at what I was saying.
I froze.
What was I saying?
I looked at my notes.
I fumbled with the mic.
My mouth was dry and I said…
“God loves you.”
Uh.
Hold your applause.
Have you ever been in one of those awkward situations where the nerdiest guy in the room is mistaken for the coolest guy in the room? He commands the attention of everyone. Girls swoon. Guys laugh. For just a moment he is THE GUY.
But you know the real coolest guy and he will make a grand entrance any minute.
Then this guy will get a noogie and have his lunch stolen.
In this scenario, at my speaking event, I am neither of those guys; I am the girl in the bathroom throwing up Cheetos and diet coke.
Yes, that is exactly how much sense my talk made.
“God loves you.”
I said it again.
At some point, I finished the painful display and made it to my car and then went to a convenience store and bought Cheetos and diet coke.
Also, a Snickers.
And some gummy bears.
But that is not the point.

I decided to get it over with and I plugged in my iPhone to listen to the talk. Not so much as to note what I should improve on and more so how I was never leaving my house, like ever again.
Truly, it wasn’t one of my finer assemblies.
As I listened to the audio recording of myself, at about the time I had seen the nursing mom heaving sobs, just about the moment I usually tell one specific detail… I heard myself pause.
“God loves you.”
“He is for you.”
“He is for your marriage.”
“He is for your children.”
“He is for your success and peace of mind.”
“God loves you.”
And I sat in my car and cried. Maybe these moms already knew that. And sure we hear that all the time.
“GOD IS LOVE, HE IS ALL LOVE… LOVE, LOVE, LOVE. BLAH. BLAH. BLAH.”
Until He is not pure love and He’s a crazed mad man who strikes down young mothers with breast cancer or breaks your pelvis in a strange shopping calamity at Target to “teach you something” about credit card debt.
“God loves you.”
Coming from my stereo was my very own raspy, nasally drawl, and all of the sudden I was slain with heartburn and the reality… I believed me.
“God loves me.”
“He is for me.”
“He is for my marriage.”
“He is for my children.”
“He is for my success and peace of mind.”
And it isn’t Jane Austen or some famed speaker, it is hardly a phenomenal expression or lesson but I thought it important you know:
“God loves you.”
“He is for you.”
“He is for your marriage.”
“He is for your children.”
“He is for your success and peace of mind.”
“God loves you.”
Believe Him.
It is time for a total change of mind and heart.
GOD LOVES YOU.
Mic Drop.
May your floors be sticky and your calling ordained. Love, Jami
