A Prayer to be Better...

A Prayer to be Better…

A prayer to be better…

“Dear God, if I could change,

if I could only be better… it would be so grand.
Help me better…”

God inquired, “Better at what?”

“A better mother.
Help me to be more attentive, more gentle, soft-spoken and sweet.
Help me remember to kiss every cheek.
Help me to be better in the mundane and fatigued
Help me to love better, hug better and wash their little feet.”

And God said, “But you do all those things?”

Still, I pleaded, “But better!
Better at the things that make them feel loved.
Help me be better with kisses and hugs.
Help me remember to brush all their teeth.
Help me remember to clip nails and cut sweets.
Help me come up with fun-filled ideas
for lunches and play dates and frolics in fields.”

“Help me remember to snap photos, take notes.
Never let me stop trying…
help me let go.
Help me be braver and encourage them too,
help me to guide them in ways to find you.”

Again He argued,
“But those are the things that I see you do?”

“But better” I insisted!
Better at baking, cooking, and kissing boo-boos.
Better at homework, laundry and trips to the zoo.
Better at loving and leading and looking to you.”

And He sighed.
“If only you knew.”

“Baby girl, if only you believed I was this good to you.
That you needn’t fret, worry and sacrifice too.

If only you knew…

You are finally free, bought and paid for.
You toil and grovel and pace the floor.
You worry and beg,
you pray to be different
I try and convey…
you’re wonderful!
I’m smitten!

You are Fabulous…
Adored,
Daughter every day.

Perfected parenting is the goal that you crave.
This is your prayer both at night and all day.

I came to bring freedom to the meager and weak.
I gave it to you, and still… you seek.
You beg for my comfort and ignore it at once.
You are whole and dear and all that I want…
is that you might know the fullness you crave is a bill that I took.
I already paid.
I came to bring peace, joy, and a life that is grand
and you are missing it daily…
trying to expand
on that which I gave you,
a gift that is free.
All you need do is look up …
at me.”

“Stop trying to fix that which is not broke.
Stop fixating on things that tighten the yoke.
Run wild, sing praises
This is my gift,
Go forth with a smile!
Your focus please shift.”

And better am I for accepting that gift.
Better daughter, friend and sweetheart.
Better giver,
better gifter and better
As an art.

Better believer, hoper and one that He loves.
Better mother simply because,
Better and free
a lift of a curse.

Better at praying
Wholeheartedly
Singing a new verse….

Better and free from worry and shame.
Better and peaceful
My head in the game.
Better and healed
Better and whole.

Better beloved, His hand I hold…

Isaiah 41:13 (NLT) “For I hold you by your right hand- I, the Lord your God. And I say to you, ‘Don’t be afraid. I am here to help you.

My word last year was fearless because I was battling great anxiety. This year it is abide because I beliebe God is teaching me what it means to abide in Him and trust Him for every need I have.

I just loved that prayer-poem. Even thought I’m not a mom I still loved it. Jami I’m so happy God put us together this way. You and your posts are truly an inspiration and a blessing to me. I look forward everyday to open your e-mail to see what surprises God has inspired through you. (I hope I said that right.) Anyway may God richly bless you and yours and your ministry. Love you your sister in Jesus.
