Foster Care: Hoping for the Hurt

Foster Care: Hoping for the Hurt

Foster Care: Hoping for the Hurt

This will probably not reach the masses.

I don’t care.

If my words fall upon the heart of one… I have succeeded.

I just left a house with broken spirits. Addicted spirits. Fighting spirits. Spirits… Who have given up on their life, their old life.

in love (1)

Among those spirits is a young woman – whom I love.

Adore.

I want her to succeed. Definitely, I want her whole. Wholeheartedly, I want her to be more than she even can fathom. I want her to boldly walk from my life… And take her child with her.

I want the heartache of that loss.

Because I love her.

If this moment is what it is like to love with the eyes of Jesus let me never forget.

She is Eve in her folly.

And, she is Ruth in her commitment

She is Naomi is her search for home.

Rachael in her faith.

Elizabeth in her doubt.

Mary in her hope.

And, Mary Magdalene in her brokenness, and her redemption.

In her I see, the woman at the well in her new day.

in love

And me… But by the grace of God, and simply because of God.

If for a moment you considered your place in the foster care system, stop and think again. Yes. It is for the babies. Yes. It is for the helpless victims. And YES! It could be that the least of these are the PARENTS of children in foster care. What if… It isn’t about your attachment to a child… But rather your attachment to that child’s momma & daddy?

And what if you were the cheerleader those parents needed more than anything in the world?

Brothers and sisters… A new dawn approaches.  The dawn of dying to self & reconsidering the least of these. We are so quick to assume, so quick to judge.  Who are the least of these?

I am.

You are.

The least of these are all of those children of God in need.

Misunderstood, lost, addicted, struggling, hungry, tired… Broken.

Tonight, I cannot sleep. I saw something in a quick and sobering moment – something I asked God to show me. And, I will never be the same. Certainly, I will write about this again. And yes, I will ask you again. No, I won’t nag you. And, I won’t pretend it is easy… or that you won’t get hurt. I cannot promise you will be in a situation with parents committed to change… but, what if you were?

What if He who saves will use you to deliver a child back into his family’s arms? Or use you as a bridge to a whole new level of acceptance – a whole new generation of change?

It is Foster Care Awareness Month. Just for a moment…

Reconsider foster care. Fall in love fearlessly.

May your floors be sticky and your calling ordained. Love, Jami

  1. […] My soul is at the theater, watching a play about souls forbidden to dance… yet they do it anyway. A play I would only enjoy with the real Kevin Bacon.  Furthermore, my soul is pretending to read a book about “pwanets” and hopes to “twavle to da moon” someday. My soul is throwing a wall-eyed fit because it wanted the spider-man pajamas… not the batman ones.  My soul is drifting to sleep on soft pink sheets with her night-night and lovie – and part of that soul belongs to another soul, a “real” mom with high hopes for a piece of her soul.  […]

If this would be the focus of foster care … the change that could make the difference in lives where there were just fewer repeat removals of a child or children from a home…. what a difference in the machine it could possibly make! The thoughts, running through my head now, are making me dizzy!
